I have worked in the financial services industry for over 20 years, and have spent more than fifteen of them advising people to plan wise investment choices for every stage of their lives. My career includes two years in the trust department at Canada Trust as a wills and estate specialist. This experience gave me an expertise in trusts and estate planning that has profoundly influenced the focus of my practice and my understanding of the multigenerational issues we all face. In addition, I was a Branch Manager at Canada Trust for four years and an Assistant Branch Manager for North American Life Assurance for two years.
I have also spent four years working in Ottawa at a senior level. I had the privilege of being a Special Assistant to Michael Wilson while he was Minister of Finance and International Trade. That was followed by two years as Chief of Staff to Mary Collins, Minister of Health for Canada.
Having worked in the upper echelons of government and the banking, trust and investment industries, I have gained invaluable insights into both the public and private sectors — insights that have served my clients and I very well over the years.
I hold my Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Political Science from McMaster University and my Level II Life Insurance† license. I have also obtained the designation of Certified Financial Planner (CFP). Outside of work, I have been extremely active in my community. I volunteered for a few years as President of my children’s swim club; and was Regional Water Polo Director for Simon Fraser Region with the BC Summer Swim Association; Fundraising Director of Pacific Storm Water Polo; President of the Strata Condominium Building Council, and Director of the Canadian Television Fund, an organization that grants money gathered from government and cable and satellite companies to worthy television productions.
As a member of a three-person expert panel, I was involved with a volunteer project to develop the Federal Fitness Tax Credit for Finance Minister Jim Flaherty. The tax credit helps parents to fund their children’s organized fitness involvement; the credit gives 15.5% back on the first $500 spent on children’s fitness activities each year.
