The Power of the Purse 2011

Record-breaking generosity brought positive change to the lives of girls in Ethiopia.

The 2nd Annual Power of the Purse, a gala dinner and auction for 50 women held at Holt Renfrew’s café on the mezzanine on November 17th, 2011, raised $37,000, which was generously matched by the Macquarie Group Foundation to bring our total to an impressive $74,000.00! This is up from last year’s total by about $14,000.00!

The generosity of attendees, that of Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts and all my sponsors, is truly inspiring.

The monies raised will go to help build a primary school in Jimma, Ethiopia and girls-only latrines through Plan Canada's Because I am a Girl initiative. When we make schools more welcoming, girls are more likely to complete their education and fulfill their potential.

We were honoured to have philanthropist Sophie Grégoire-Trudeau, Holt Renfrew’s Barbara Atkin, and Plan Canada’s Rosemary McCarney as our keynote speakers. They were able to put the evening into the most hopeful context: what we accomplished is making a difference that can be personally witnessed when you visit young girls around the globe.

Please donate now to share the power of your purse to support Plan’s work on behalf of girls around the world.

Many thanks to all,
